Transfer a domain into Names.co.uk

You can transfer domains into Names.co.uk from your Control Panel. The procedure varies slightly depending on the suffix of the domain, which this guide will walk you through.

Once you are logged in to your Control Panel, select Services from the top menu and then Domains & Services from the drop-down list.

Next click on Add Domain from the menu on the left.

You will now see a number of options in the centre of the screen; look for the one entitled Transfer a domain to us, and click on the link.

From this point the process will vary slightly depending on the domain suffix. You will now see five options in the centre of the screen.

This guide will now cover each of these various options.

Transfer a Nominet domain (ending .uk)

Enter all the .uk domains you wish to transfer into Names.co.uk in the box provided on screen, and click the PROCEED button. This will then add those domains to your online account, although at this point they have not yet transferred over.

Our systems are now ready to receive the incoming transfer, and you now need to ask your current registration provider to change the IPS tag on your domain to NAMESCO – no other information is required. Unless they do this then the domain will remain with them, so it is important that this is done.

Note: We do not change the nameserver entries on your domain during this process. If you wish to change nameservers, you will only be able to do this once the IPS Tag has been changed to ours and the domain is listed as being active in your account.

Transfer a .com .net .org .biz .info .mobi or .us domain

Please pay close attention to the text in your Control Panel when you begin the transfer in process for these types of domains, as there are certain criteria which must be met. Please also note that there is a charge of £10 +VAT when transferring one of these domains into Names.co.uk. This charge is levied by the Registrar, but to compensate for this we will add one year to the overall registration period of the domain.

Once you have read and understood all the details on transferring in the domain, then you need to enter the domain you wish to transfer into the box marked Domain and click on the PROCEED button. This will then take you through to our payment gateway to make the £10 + VAT transfer payment.

Once payment is made, the domain is added to your Names.co.uk account, with a Transfer In status. When we receive confirmation from our registrar that the transfer is complete, this is then changed and the domain becomes fully manageable through your account.

Note: We do not change the nameserver entries on your domain during this process. If you wish to change nameservers, you will only be able to do this once the transfer has completed and the domain is listed as being active in your account.

Transfer a new gTLD domain

The process for this type of domain is essentially the same as the process for .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .mobi and .us domains. As with those, there is a ?£10 + VAT transfer fee, which is offset by having the renewal date of the domain extended by one year.

Transfer an IEDR (.ie) domain

Incoming transfers of .ie domains are priced at £24.99 per domain, and this fee must be paid before the transfer can begin. It includes a one-year renewal, which is automatically applied upon successful completion of the transfer.

As a security measure to prevent fraudulent transfers, the registry requires all transfers to be validated by an Authorisation Code. This code, also known as an “EPP Auth Code” is set by the .ie Registry (IEDR) and must be provided to us before a transfer can be initiated.

Authorisation Codes can be obtained from your current provider, or from the .ie Registry (IEDR) by emailing registrations@iedr.ie, or by visiting https://console.iedr.ie/index.php?r=authcodePortal/request

When you are ready to proceed, enter in the domain and the Authorisation Code and click on Proceed. You will then be directed to the payment page to make the £24.99 payment.

The transfer process should take 24 hours to complete, and you will be notified by email once it has done so.

Note: We do not change the nameserver entries on your domain during this process. If you wish to change nameservers, you will only be able to do this once the transfer has completed and the domain is listed as being active in your account.
